Archbishop and Presiding Prelate Hon. Andres B. Quow
Beloved in Christ, devotion is the inner covenant that binds the servant to the Master beyond circumstances and seasons. It is easy to be fervent when the path is smooth, and doors open quickly; it is another thing to remain steadfast when prayers seem delayed and the night appears long. Yet it is in these testing moments that true devotion is revealed. The devoted heart does not abandon its post when feelings cool or when answers tarry. It stands, like a watchman on the wall, confident that God remains faithful even when understanding is limited.
As Archbishop and Presiding Prelate, there is a deep desire to see every believer embrace this mature devotion. Spiritual infancy looks only for immediate relief; spiritual maturity seeks the will of God above all. Such a devotion is cultivated when we learn to bring our questions, disappointments, and wounds honestly before the Lord, instead of hiding them. In that honest surrender, the Spirit ministers comfort, insight, and renewed strength. The very places where we once felt weak become testimonies of God’s keeping power and instruments of encouragement for others.
Devotion also gives shape to our priorities. It confronts anything that competes with God’s rightful place in our hearts—be it pride, bitterness, or distraction. As these lesser loyalties are laid down, room is made for a deeper infilling of love, wisdom, and peace. In this way, devotion is not a rigid burden but a liberating alignment. It frees us from the tyranny of pleasing everyone and anchors us in the simple, holy aim of pleasing God.
In this season, let your devotion be both vertical and horizontal: reaching up to God in worship and stretching out to others in service. Pray with expectancy, serve with humility, and forgive with generosity. May your devotion become a steady light that guides your household, strengthens this Mystical Order, and bears witness to a watching world that Jesus Christ is Lord indeed.
