THE GATEWAY TO JOY

Gratitude

Pastoral Messages by Matriarch Elnette Edwards

Precious ones,

Let me tell you something that revolutionized my life: gratitude isn't just good manners—it's spiritual warfare. When we cultivate a grateful heart, we defeat the enemies of anxiety, discouragement, and despair. Gratitude shifts our focus from what's missing to what's present, from what's broken to what's beautiful.

I learned this lesson during the darkest season of my life. I had lost my health, my financial security was shaken, and I felt utterly abandoned. One morning, too depressed to even get out of bed, I heard the Lord whisper: "Elnette, what can you thank Me for right now?" I wanted to argue that there was nothing to be grateful for, but then I heard birds singing outside my window. "Thank You for birdsong," I whispered. "Thank You that I can hear." And slowly, one tiny gratitude at a time, light began to break through the darkness.

That's when I started keeping a gratitude journal. Every morning, before my feet hit the floor, I write three things I'm thankful for. Some days it's profound—healing, breakthrough, answered prayer. Other days it's simple—hot coffee, a friend's text message, sunshine. But this practice has trained my heart to look for blessings instead of problems, to notice God's goodness instead of dwelling on difficulties.

The Bible commands us to "give thanks in all circumstances." Notice it doesn't say for all circumstances—we don't thank God for tragedy or evil. But we thank Him in every circumstance, trusting that He's working even when we can't see it, that His presence sustains us even in the valley, that His mercies are new every morning even when yesterday was hard.

Gratitude also transforms our relationships. When we express appreciation to others, we strengthen bonds and create joy. I make it a practice to tell people specifically what I'm grateful for about them—not just "thank you," but "thank you for listening when I needed to talk" or "I'm grateful for your faithfulness even when ministry is hard." These specific expressions of gratitude bless both the giver and the receiver.

I've also noticed that grateful people are magnetic. Their joy is contagious. Their perspective is refreshing. They don't deny problems, but they refuse to let problems define their reality. They've discovered that no matter what's happening, there's always something to be grateful for.

Scientific research confirms what the Bible has always taught—gratitude rewires our brains, improves our health, strengthens our relationships, and increases our happiness. But more than that, gratitude honors God. When we thank Him, we acknowledge that every good gift comes from Him, that we're dependent on His grace, and that He's worthy of our praise.

Start today. Right now, before you read another word, name three things you're grateful for. Make it a daily practice. Watch how it transforms not just your mood, but your entire life. Gratitude is the gateway to joy, and joy is our strength.

Gratefully His,

Matriarch Elnette Edwards

FROM THE DESK OF THE QUEEN ABBESS

A Message from The Queen Abbess Dr. Patriarch Hackshaw To The Mystical Order Ministries: Making Christ the Center of Your Life This Christmas Beloved Members of The Mystical Order Ministries, I greet you with profound joy and spiritual affection as we enter into this sacred season of Christmas. It is my privilege and honour to extend to you my warmest wishes for a law-abiding, peaceful, and joyous holiday season. May the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ bring renewed hope, divine blessing, and transformative grace into every aspect of your lives. Christmas commemorates the most pivotal moment in human history—when the eternal Son of God humbled Himself and entered our world as a helpless infant. This divine condescension reveals the heart of our God: a heart that loves deeply, forgives completely, and desires an intimate relationship with each of His children. The birth of Christ was not merely a religious event; heaven declared that God has not abandoned humanity but has come to dwell a...

THE ETERNAL WALK

HH, Patriarch Godfrey Gregg The journey of faith is not limited to the span of our earthly years—it is a walk that stretches into eternity. For those who belong to the Lord, life is more than a fleeting moment; it is the beginning of an everlasting union with God. Our walk with Him is both present and eternal. From the beginning, God has desired fellowship with man.  “Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away”  (Genesis 5:24). Enoch’s life reminds us that walking with God is not bound by earthly limitations but leads to eternal fellowship with Him. Jesus confirms this promise of eternal companionship, declaring:  “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die”  (John 11:25–26). Our walk continues beyond death, for in Christ we have eternal life. Paul describes this journey beautifully:  “For we walk by faith, not by ...

THE POWER OF GRATITUDE

HH, Patriarch Sir Godfrey Children of the Faith, Gratitude is the key that unlocks the fullness of God’s blessings. A thankful heart turns what we have into enough and more. It recognizes God’s hand in every circumstance and magnifies His goodness beyond measure. Gratitude is not merely a response to blessings received but a lifestyle that colours our perspective and strengthens our faith. In The Mystical Order, let us cultivate a spirit of thanksgiving in every season. When trials come, let gratitude be the lens through which we view them—as tools for growth and deeper reliance on God. When blessings abound, may our hearts overflow in praise and generosity. A thankful heart brings joy and peace, binds us together in humility, and stands as a testimony to the world of God’s faithfulness. Let us give thanks in all things, knowing that this is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus. Today, renew your commitment to gratitude. Let your prayers be filled with thanksgiving and your lips wit...
